Faith Along the Journey
Finding God in the Healing, the Waiting, and the Climb
More Than a Journey
Life has a way of teaching us lessons we never expected to learn. Sometimes, those lessons come through our experiences with health and medicine. Other times, they come while walking along a mountain trail, catching our breath on a steep climb, or standing quietly before the beauty of God's creation.
My interest in medicine reminds me how precious life is. The human body is remarkable, yet it is also fragile. Health challenges and the process of healing can remind us that, despite all our plans and preparations, there are things beyond our control. We can seek knowledge, pursue treatment, and do our best, but we must also learn patience, humility, and trust.
Hiking offers me another perspective on this same journey. Every trail has its own challenges. Some paths are steep, some are unpredictable, and some seem to go on longer than expected. There are moments when the climb feels exhausting, when the destination seems far away, and when all I can do is take one more step.
Isn't that how life can be, too?
There are seasons when we feel strong and ready to move forward, and there are seasons when we need to slow down, rest, and regain our strength. Whether we are navigating a health concern, waiting for answers, or facing an uncertain future, we are reminded that progress does not always happen quickly.
Through these experiences, I am learning to appreciate the journey rather than focus only on the destination. I am learning that rest is not failure, that asking for help is not weakness, and that taking things one step at a time is sometimes the bravest thing we can do.
Above all, I am reminded of God's presence in both the ordinary and extraordinary moments of life. I see reminders of His creation in the mountains, the forests, and the quiet beauty of the outdoors. I am reminded of His goodness in the gift of another day, the strength to keep going, and the people who walk alongside us.
I do not believe every difficult season comes with an immediate explanation, nor does faith mean that we will never struggle. Rather, faith gives me a reason to keep hoping, to keep moving forward, and to trust God even when the whole path is not yet visible.
Whether on a medical journey or a mountain trail, I am learning that life is not simply about how fast we arrive or how much we accomplish. It is also about what we learn along the way, how we care for ourselves and others, and how we grow in faith through every season.
One step at a time. One day at a time. By God's grace, onward.
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” — Proverbs 3:5 (KJV)
